What is Kintsugi?
Kintsugi is a traditional Japanese art form in which broken ceramics are repaired and reassembled using gold, silver, or platinum. The result is not merely a functional object, but an enhanced work of art. Kintsugi conveys the idea that objects are made to be used. Over time, they may show signs of wear or cracks, which are not hidden but celebrated as signs of a life well lived.

People are like ceramics too – most of us carry scars, whether physical or mental (and definitely physical if you practice Jiu-Jitsu). These scars are an essential part of us and tell our story.

Not only is the damage not hidden, but the repair is literally highlighted… a physical expression of the spirit of Mushin. Mushin is often translated as ‘no mind,’ but it also encompasses the meaning of existing fully in the moment, without attachment, with equanimity despite changing circumstances. … The blows of fate that all people are exposed to over the course of their lives could not be more clearly visible than in the cracks, impacts, and breakage to which ceramics are also subjected.
